Ideas for Flashback

The idea of our flashback is to show how disfunctional the couple in the video are. We have decided to make this look dramatic, but i've also looked at influences from other media sources to see if there is any other way we could portray the same effect without repeatedly using 'fight' scenes.

A film that quite famously portrays this kind of couple is American Beauty.



This picture is interesting, because it clearly shows to the viewer that although it is somewhat of a normal dinner scene, there is a distance between the couple that is quite literally presented through the use of the long dinner table that does physically seperate them. It suggests that there is a lack of intamacy between the couple, but they are trying to avoid it by dressing the table in such a pristine way. This is an idea we could embrace, and that is the idea of an obvious problem between two people that is represented in a physical way.


This picture is more obvious in terms of portraying how disfunctional the couple are. The man in the picture is somewhat smuggly sitting in his arm chair, with his feet up on the table (which you can tell by the sorrundings is something that wouldnt usually happen in this house). She is standing behind him blocking the doorway, and this shows a sense of power that she is trying to exert.


Another media product that shows a disfunctional couple is another music video by Beyonce, whereby there is a bit of role reversal. Instead of just using full on fighting, we could perhaps consider using shots that show the emotional torment of being in this kind of relationship (so it shows emotion at a deeper level rather than just anger).
