Brain-Storming Before the Photo-Shoot

Our group brain-stormed over private Facebook messaging as Charlotte was out the country and had internet access. As you can see from the screen-grab, we were bouncing ideas off of eachother.

Ancillary Task Photo Shoot (27.02.11)

Today the weather was cold but sunny, and therefore we decided to go ahead with the photo-shoot! We decided to go to Broxbourne forest to have an alternate location to Epping. We were lucky as this was the best weather we've seen all weeks, and we were able to take pictures for both ancilary tasks. Jodie's sister Sian came with us to help us take them, so that we could all be in every picture. Overall, I am very happy with today's progress; we were able to take a lot of pictures that all very varied in terms of what we are doing in them etc.

Here are just three of the many pictures we took today:

Even from this small sample you can see we have incorporated a lot of range into our pictures.

Plan of Action:

Editing for the first draft of our ancilary task (Digi-pak) will commence and hopefully be completed on Tuesday 1nd March, ready for presenting on Friday 4th March to the rest of our media class. I will be updating our progress on Tuesday.

Weather & Plan Updates

Throughout the week we decided that we are going to chance the weather in Epping Forest; I looked online at the BBC weather website and it forecast the following:

However, Charlotte suggested that we go to Broxbourne Forest as it has similar features to the Epping Forest and is closer to home. I also looked at the predictions for the broxbourne area, and it was forecasted as the following:

As you can see, the two are very similiar. Therefore, the new plan is to go to Broxbourne to take the photos. This is yet to be confirmed by all members of the group but I am sure it will end up going ahead. Hopefully we shouldn't occur any problems, but we will see what tomorrow brings!

Our Half-Term Trip to Epping

As planned, Sophie, Jodie and myself went to Epping Forest on Monday afternoon to pick potential locations for our photos to be taken. When we got there, we found the forest was extremley muddy due to the rain and was nothing like how it was when intially filmed there.

However, saying that we did manage to find some spots that could be used as it was more sheltered by trees and therefore not muddy. Here is a photo of one of these locations:

So, we are faced with a bit of a predicament. We have a first-draft deadline that is vastly approaching - and we only have one computer session next week to complete this draft in. We will watch the weather as the week progresses and try and brain-storm for other locations which we could film.

Plan for Ancillary Task 1: Digi-Pak

After meeting with the group yesterday, we decided upon a new plan of action:

Firstly, we have changed the theme of our photoshoot. We was initially planning to do a proffesional style photo-shoot, with us all in glamourous dresses and shoes posing infront of a white or black background. However, after having difficulties finding an appropriate background we have decided to change the theme; we are now going back to Epping Forest to do the photo-shoot for both ancillary tasks pictures. We decided this was appropriate as we felt that the look we were previously trying to achieve was too similiar to what The Saturdays would normally do. By posing in the forest with smart clothing, it will give a sense of individuality to our picture and will seperate us from the stereotypical girl-band album cover.

We haven't yet decided on poses and locations within the forest, but on Monday Jodie, Sophie and myself are going to go over to Epping to look around and take pictures of potential places that we could use. From this, we'll decide the best two places and devise the poses that we are going to do so that when we come round to taking the pictures on the following Sunday we limit the amount of time that takes. Charlotte will be absent during the decision-making process as she is on holiday, but if she feels that she doesn't like or agree with our decision when she comes home we will of course adapt the plans as neccesarry.

The Use of Props.

Many artists - especially girl groups - use props in their photographs. They are used in various ways and to portray different things. Here are some examples:

We could consider using props in our own photos for our anciliary tasks, as it would add another dimension to our photos instead of just plain posing. However, it is hard to do well and a lot of these examples I have shown would be very difficult to replicate. We would need to decide as a group whether we could pull off the use of props or just decide to go for a more simple look.

Font Ideas for Ancillary Task

Last class lesson, we focused heavily on the font that we would be using for our Digi-pak design.

We firstly looked at the standard font that The Saturdays use:

I really like the font they use, I feel it is really unique and definately makes them a recognisable brand in that sense.

We wanted something girly for our own font, as we felt that this was appropriate to the group image. So we searched on the internet and found a few font designs which we could use:

Here are some examples of fonts we found on the internet, as you can see there is a various range. There are a lot of italic fonts which we like, such as Liberate and Shell Normal. However, there are some fonts on here we obviously we wouldn't use such as Comic and Teckton, which just do not fit the theme we are going for.

Black Jack is our favourite as it stands; we feel that it is feminine and sophistacted but still has an element of fun to it!

Black & White Ideas

During brainstorming, we thought a lot about the colour scheme of our album cover. An obvious choice seemed to be black and white; it looks sophisticated and somewhat vintage. I decided to look at existing products in the market to see how black and white has been used, and the genre range which it is used for.

These are examples from the R&B/Pop genre, with hugely sucessful American susperstars Beyone, Lady Gaga and Rihanna using black and white for their main album colours. This is a popoular theme amongst very famous singers.

As well as this, a lot of Indie/Rock artists have used the same theme for their album, but it portrays an entirely different look. This makes me feel that it is the way the image is positioned and designed that sets the tone. It also tells me that black and white as a theme is very flexible, and can be adapted to suit any genre. It is something our group will definately consider.

Moodboard

A mood board is a type of poster design that may consist of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition of the choice of the mood board creator. We created our own mood board to develop our design concepts and to communicate to the consumers of our product.
